Social Media: Which one(s) are for you?
Each social media platform is different and great for different situations and environments for your business. Take a look below for the breakdown of what social media(s) are worth your time to have for you business.
This is one of the largest social media platforms for businesses in this day and age. Almost every age group can be found on this platform and most are very active. Consider this to be your “catch all” interaction place for your audience. I would recommend all businesses to have a page on this platform.
Being a mostly visual based platform, think of Instagram as the sibling of Facebook. They are both owned by the same company and work hand and hand. Influencers tend to have their best work on Instagram. Typically, you are going to loose your older age range that Facebook has (50+) so if your audience is all this age range, you will likely not have a ton of interaction on this platform. However, I still always suggest that almost every company (no matter the size) has these two platforms.
YouTube
Videos, videos, videos. This platform requires a new level of posting. While Facebook and Instagram can and encourage video posting, YouTube is the one stop shop for videos. You lose the older age range for the most part and don’t have to have an account to see everything posted, just to comment/interact. Accounts are free to have a to post to. If your business or influencer has video content, then a YouTube account is for you!
Unlike most other social medias, Twitter is all about words. Twitter is back on the rise due to it’s lack of connection to Facebook & Instagram. I would recommend this platform for any audience base that is 40 and under in combination with Facebook and Instagram accounts. This is also a great place to post things that are more adult, religious, or controversial content that is shut down by Facebook, Instagram, and even YouTube as they are less strict on what they allow on the platform.
TikTok
Do you have an interactive company? Or is your audience mainly Gen Z? Are you an influencer? If any answer is yes then you need a TikTok. However, you want to post what you post on TikTok to Facebook Stories, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. The key to this is to post on a regular basis!
Are you a creative personality or product shop? This is a platform to let your creativity flourish! Create an account for free and keep categorized posts for all of the areas that make your business special!
Snapchat
If your business has a SnapChat then you are aiming to do stories throughout the day. You will have to dedicate the time to take videos/pictures and post them to your story. When you do this I would recommend posting the same content to Facebook & Instagram stories. I recommend this for the organizations or companies with events on a regular basis.
This is great for businesses that are communicating with their customers. Initially this social media platform started out for people to communicate with their families and expanded from there. Now a lot of businesses use this app to be able to easily communicate with their customers without having to email. This is a good place to provide customer support and answer specialized questions.
Tumblr
Being a purely blog based platform, Tumblr is best for those with lifestyle blogs or similar blog style content. When you are updating blog content on a regular basis but do not have a need for other pages on your site, Tumblr is a great option! It also can be used to back your content.
Reddit is a different social media platform that is mostly question based. This is a great platform to create an account and take the time to answer questions in your field of service. It builds your creditability but you have to take the time to go through the platform, answer questions, and post links.
Twitch
Are you a gamer or an influencer? This is the place for you. It is mostly a live-streaming social media platform with a nitch. Be sure to get an account to expand your audience if you are in these types of fields.
SoundCloud
If you are a musician of any level, this music based social media platform is for you! Here you can upload your tracks to share with the world and build your fanbase! You can also share from SoundCloud to other social media accounts or your website.
Vimeo
This is another video social media platform. It may not be as widely used as YouTube but it is not far behind. This platform is great for video based content and can be shared via a link to other social media accounts and your website.
When considering a page on this platform consider who your audience is, more importantly the type of people. If you are looking to advertise to large, technology based, or corporate organizations then you NEED this platform. Think of LinkedIn as the digital space to make business to business connections.
Flickr
If you are a photographer or a company that wants their photos to easily be found on the world wide web, consider this social media! While this platform has not been as popular in recent years, it is still a good platform to consider in certain scenarios as a secondary source since it still has many like-minded members.
